Chemical characteristics of some commercial sunflower and corn oils

Abstract

There were studied eightsunfloweroilsand one corn oil, packed in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and commercialised inRomania, in supermarkets. The mainstudied characteristics weresaponification, iodine, acid and peroxidevalues.Although the colourless-transparent PET bottleallowsphoto-oxidationphenomena, theanalysedoils presentedgood and very good quality,in concordance with the standards.The analysed parameters support the information marked on labels, as compositionin unsaturated fatty acids.
