Abstract:
Beyond the divergences of opinions, almost all the researches
analysing the activity of Constantin Negruzzi as a translator have
appreciated the importance of the Romanian version of Victor Hugo’s
Ballads pointing out its influence during that period of time on the evolution
of the literary Romanian language towards modernity. Reading attentively
Constantin Negruzzi’s translation and using the most complete Romanian
and French dictionaries, there have been identified the neologisms
introduced in Romanian versions in successive editions, laying stress on the
following directions of study: semantic assimilation, phonetical adaptation,
morphological framing. The comparative analysis of the successive lines of
the same text is compulsory for the researcher, who may thus establish the
evolution level of a certain writer, determining at the same time certain
tendencies of the vocabulary development of the literary Romanian language
from the 19th century. The numerous examples of neologisms extracted from
the text which have been preserved till now in the vocabulary of the
Romanian language with the form introduced by Negruzzi represent an
incontestable proof of his extraordinary sense of language, and the
importance of the phenomenon at that time.
