dc.description.abstract In the present, the quality of the environment has become one of the most acute overall preoccupations of humanity, as people are no longer concerned only about the preservation of the environment, since the very survival of the human species is now threatened. Beginning with the 8th decade of the 20th century, economic thinking and science entered a new stage of their evolution, which is still in progress, characterized especially by the intensification of the joint efforts of various categories of specialists for the settlement of the global problems of humanity, of the economic and environmental imbalances. A priority for scientists, public bodies and civil societies is the prevention and removal of environment pollution consequences, as well as the substantiation of technical, technological, economic and environmental solutions designed to provide a new economic and environment-friendly behavior of humans and of the society as a whole. In the present development stage, the environmental economy and management have to become basic elements in the management strategy of each socio-economic unit. After 1990, the environment policy became a constituent of the overall policy in Romania, as we acknowledged its significance for the appropriate development of our society. Generally, in Romania, there has been applied a consistent legal system in according to the European Union legislation. A domestic and foreign financing program supports environment policy in Romania. Therefore, the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development is in charge of the domestic financing, while the foreign financing is achieved with international partners, based on projects and programs. Investments are designed to lead to a gradual reaching of the environment standards required by the provisions of the European Union, these being mostly the responsibility of the public sector. In Romania, the challenge consists in identifying both the motors, and the managerial and economic instruments to ensure the successful applying and the promoting the specific legal provisions. en_US
