Abstract:
The species of the Eryngium and Echinops genera, by their ornamental characters and their ability to adapt to the most diverse ecological conditions, can provide valuable opportunities for enriching the floral range of plants for landscaping or cut flowers. In this paper, the effect of different chemical agents used as preservative solutions to improve the keeping quality of Eryngium planum and Echinops ritrocut flowers had been studied.Five variants were obtained for each analyzed species: silver nitrate (0.002%); potassium benzoate (0.03%); boric acid (0.01%); Fleur Vital (40 g/L) and distilled water as control. The vaselife of the cut flowers of Eryngium planum was not influenced by the substances used in the storage solutions, but for Echinops ritro, the longer storage time was in water and boric acid. In both Eryngium planum and Echinops ritro, the shortest duration of leaf retention was in Fleur vital.
